In Loving Memory

Euthanasia
Regardless of the reasons behind it the decision to euthanase a pet is never an easy one. Even in the face of sound medical evidence that euthanasia is the kindest option, making that decision is often overwhelmingly difficult for pet owners. Often the pet has been part of the family for a long time, and even if they haven’t, they are almost always valued members of the family. Unfortunately the majority of pets don’t just die quietly in their sleep without suffering, which means a lot of pet owners face the decision to euthanase their pet at some point – often towards the end of their pet’s life.

Grief
The death of a pet or having to have a pet euthanased is a loss that can’t be measured accurately. Everyone has a different relationship with their pets, but there is no doubt that for the majority of, if not all, pet owners a pet’s death affects them deeply. The importance of acknowledging the role our pets play in our lives and allowing ourselves to grieve in whichever way suits us as an individual best, can’t be overstated.

Memorial Wall

In loving memory of Kaspar
The little brown cat followed my sister home from the shops.
Supposedly.
Knowing my sister, she probably led him with a scent trail of something tasty. Golden pools of late afternoon sun for eyes and the chocolate swagger of his tail begged my parents for asylum from stray-catdom. His real cat’s purr – loud enough to hear across a room – was loud enough to make his case for joining the family.
He stayed comfortably draped across our lives, perfectly meeting an unspoken need for his soothing presence in the house, until this Sunday when he slipped unobtrusively out, leaving many memories and a little brown cat shaped hole in each of us. ...(by Dr Anita Link of Wislton Vet)

"Pussy"

You were brought in to me to be put down as your owners could not handle your “crankiness”, but I persuaded them to let me keep you.

We had a wonderful 12 years together .Yes, you were cranky at times, but that was far outweighed by your loving, affectionate and beautiful personality.

You were a “one in a million cat” and will never be forgotten

 "Lucy"

Lucy will always  hold a special place in my heart.  She was my first dog lovingly bought for my sister and I when I was 14.

She was the naughtiest little puppy because our family only knew to give her endless love and spoil her.  Remembering her time with us,  I laugh at all the things she ate and destroyed! She never slowed down until her last few years with us.  She loved life and her tail never stopped wagging.  Swimming and going for walks brought her great happiness.

Sadly her life was cut short and it was not expected even at 13 years of age.   The decision to stop her suffering was the most difficult and heartbreaking decision I had to make.

Lucy you will always hold a special place in my heart.  Rest in peace.

"Verb"

For nearly 17 years, Verb has been a loyal companion. She was hand-picked as a kitten from a small farm in Romeo, Michigan (USA) 16 ½ years ago. She had a very full and fun life both in the USA and in Australia. She had quite a personality. She loved to eat chicken sashimi style (with chopsticks), drink water out of the sink (and anyone’s glass who visited!) and could tell time (her favourite was 8 pm). She was a loyal study buddy over the past few years, also. With our upcoming wedding and knowing it was her last night with us, we picked up our wedding bands and exchanged vows in front of Verb. It was lovely to have that moment together as a family.

True to form, Verb’s spirit was strong to the very end. She did not want to leave us and we did not want to say goodbye to her. We are all very grateful to have known such a sweet, loving and angelic friend. It has been very difficult to see her health decline, after living her life as such a vibrant cat. Our only comfort is that she will now be reunited with her beautiful furry friend Harlan in heaven. Special thanks to Dr Meredith Brothers and the friendly, compassionate staff at Wilston Vet. Your care and support has been tremendous.

We miss Verb tremendously. Thank you, Angel Kitty-WE LOVE YOU!
