Here at Wilston Vet we like to share our interesting cases with you. Each month we upload one of our current patient’s veterinary treatments. These include intestinal surgeries, broken bone surgeries, diabetic management, infectious disease treatments and birthing complications (to mention a few.) We hope that you enjoy reading about these brave pets as they undergo their veterinary treatment. If you would like us to do a story on your own pet following treatment with us, please let us know as we would be delighted to oblige.

Stella- The Wonder Dog Walks Again

Name: Stella
Species: Canine
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Sex: Female – Speyed
Age: 10y 2m
Current Weight: 18.1kgs

History: Stella has been a patient at Wilston Vet since she was a wee puppy! Watching her grow up from a 9wk old puppy into the active and affectionate 10yr old dog she is today has been a wonderful journey. Recently, Stella became lame on her right hind leg. Given her age and very active nature, Dr Kate suspected that she had some arthritis or an acute soft tissue injury (such as a muscle or ligament tear or strain). Stella was started on anti-inflammatory and pain relief medication. However, her lameness persisted so Dr Kate decided to perform x-rays and manipulations of her leg under anaesthesia.

Sex: Female – Speyed
Age: 2y 6m
Current Weight: 3.8kgs

(Fleas are a common problem all year around, however often are most prevalent in the Spring and Summer months.) Some animals can develop a condition called ‘flea allergy dermatitis’ which can cause a generalised itch and discomfort even from the bite of one single flea. Flea prevention had been applied to Prinny prior to her visit, however she had continued to lick and scratch at her fur.

Age: 15y 8m
Current Weight: 2.9kgs

History: Lucy is a much loved patient here at Wilston Vet. She presented to the clinic to see Dr Kate as her appetite had recently decreased and she seemed to be losing weight. A complete blood profile had been performed earlier in the year and happily her results had been normal, ruling out many of the causes for weight loss and reduced appetite in older felines.
