Merchandise

Wilston Vet stocks a range of merchandise for all your pet’s needs. From shampoos to leads, to treats for your dog and cat, we can advise you on the best quality products to keep your pet happy and healthy.

For Dogs we recommend the following products:

Hertworm Prevention

Proheart Injection – Heartworm disease is still prevalent throughout Australia and it is important that your dog has protection. Missing your pet’s heartworm prevention can put your dog at risk of being bitten by a mosquito that carries the heartworm disease. The yearly heartworm injection takes away the worry and hassle of having to remember to give daily or monthly tablets. Puppies can now have the heartworm injection as young as 3 months of age

Worming

Stomach Worms, if left untreated, can cause poor condition and ill health such as diahorrhoea, anaemia, weight loss and a dull coat. Intestinal worms can also infect your family, particularly children. This can be very serious and cause either itchy skin as the worms migrate through your child’s skin or even blindness if they migrate to behind the eye. We recommend worming your adult dog every 3 months to with Popantel Allwormer to kill the adult worms in your dog’s intestines and reduce the population of worm eggs in the environment. (Puppies are wormed more frequently). These routine treatments ensure your pet’s good health and reduce the human health risk as well. If your dog isn’t too keen on being given a tablet there are chewy alternatives. Otherwise, please feel free to bring them in for our nurses to administer the tablet free of charge.

These photos are of the worms which are often, but not always, passed in the dogs droppings.

We have other products available such as Advocate, Sentinel and Interceptor if you prefer to use one of the ‘all-in-one’ products.

Flea and Tick Control

Fleas on your pet can be a very frustrating problem. They not only cause your pet to itch and scratch where the flea bites them, but they can also cause a serious allergy known as Flea Allergy Dermatitis. It only takes one flea bite to initiate the allergy cascade and cause your pet immense discomfort. To protect your dog and home for a whole month, we recommend Frontline Plus which breaks the flea life cycle. It has two active ingredients, one (fipronil) to kill the adult fleas and the other (s-methoprene) kills flea eggs, and prevents larval and pupal development. This second ingredient also works to prevent fertile eggs being laid throughout the month, preventing reinfestation of your pet and environment. Young fleas jumping on your pet are unavoidable. However by treating your dog with Frontline plus every month, any fleas that jump on to your treated pet will be dead within 18-24 hours. Frontline Plus is water fast so if your dog likes to swim, or have baths Frontline Plus will still be effective against fleas. Frontline Plus is safe from 8 weeks of age. Frontline Plus also controls paralysis ticks and brown dog ticks on dogs. Paralysis ticks can be deadly so it is important to provide your dog with tick prevention. Frontline Plus will need to be applied every 2 weeks for ticks. In conjunction with Frontline Plus we advise searching of your pet daily for ticks.

If your dog only needs flea control and does not get bathed or swim very often we recommend a spot on treatment called Advantage.

We also stock a range of other products such as Revolution, Advantix and Sentinel for your convenience.

For Cats we recommend

Heartworm Prevention, Worming and Flea Control

We recommend Revolution for your cat. This product is formulated as a spot-on treatment that’s simply applied to the back of your cat’s neck. With Revolution, once a month, you can protect your cat from fleas, intestinal worms, heartworm and ear mites. The only worm that revolution does not cover is tapeworm so a tapewormer every 3months is recommended. We recommend Popantel Tapewormer for this.

Revolution is a convenient product providing ‘all-in-one’ protection for your cat. It is safe for kittens and available for cats of all sizes.

If your cat likes to hunt lizards, rodents or geckos we recommend that you worm your cat against the Zipper Tapeworm as well as giving Revolution.

Now there is even an added incentive to keep your cat protected all year around with Revolution. When you buy 12 doses of Revolution in a year, your cat will receive 3 doses free. That is a saving of about $50.00.
